Since early October, at least seven incidents targeting Muslims praying in public spaces have been reported in Florida and Texas.
The goal of these far-right groups is simple: provoke worshippers, record their reactions, post the footage online, and frame Muslims as “violent.”
“When public officials traffic in fearmongering and misinformation about Islam and Muslim institutions, it creates an environment in which bias incidents like this become more likely,” said Mustafaa Carroll, Executive Director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.
“We call on elected officials at every level of government to speak out clearly and consistently against anti-Muslim bigotry,” Carroll added.
